Extension Task
- Write a letter from the perspective of somebody from the 20th Century regarding the state of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights and freedoms.
- Read through the secondary sources below. Describe what is meant by assimilation.
- As you read highlight in one colour sentences etc. that suggest European attitudes towards Indigenous peoples in the 1900s, highlight in a second colour Indigenous attitudes towards assimilation.
- Use the research scaffold to take relevant notes and summaries about European and Indigenous perspectives on assimilation.
- Read through one or two of the primary sources below and summarise what they tell you about Indigenous experiences during the Stolen Generation (you can use the research scaffold to help you).
- Write a letter of approximately 150-300 words that details the views of either an Indigenous Australian or European Australian towards the issue of assimilation. It should synthesise the research you have undertaken on the topic.
